{"id":1305,"date":"2022-10-01T12:02:54","date_gmt":"2022-10-01T16:02:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/churchintheacres.org\/wpDir\/?p=1305"},"modified":"2022-11-02T12:14:08","modified_gmt":"2022-11-02T16:14:08","slug":"keep-running","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/churchintheacres.org\/wpDir\/keep-running\/","title":{"rendered":"Keep Running!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A lot of us in the church are going through some tough times lately. I<br \/>\nactually think we all are, because life is never easy for anyone. Jesus said in<br \/>\nJohn 16:33 \u201c<strong>In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>the world.<\/strong>\u201d The Bible never says that when you become a Christian, God will<br \/>\nremove your troubles. It only says God will walk through your troubles with<br \/>\nyou. We are never promised \u201cpie in the sky until you die\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Actually what we ARE promised is a grueling marathon. The Bible<br \/>\ncompares our lives to a marathon race. Not a sprint. In a sprint you run as fast<br \/>\nas you can for a short distance, and speed is the critical factor. In a marathon,<br \/>\nstamina and endurance are the critical factors. How many Olympic marathons<br \/>\nhave you watched the end of, as the runners finally cross the finish line. After<br \/>\nhours of running, they are totally exhausted, often collapsing at the end. The key<br \/>\nthing is that many of them cross hours after the winner has already finished.<br \/>\nThese athletes are running their own race, and they are determined to finish\u2026<br \/>\neven if last. Finishing the race is the key.<\/p>\n<p>The apostle Paul encourages us in 2Timothy 4:7 when he says, &#8220;<strong>I have<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>kept the faith. I have finished the race. Therefore, there is laid up for me a crown<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>of righteousness.<\/strong>\u201d Its not about being the first to cross. Its about the honor in<br \/>\nstaying the course.<\/p>\n<p>The writer of Hebrews says in chapter 12:1-2, &#8220;<strong>Therefore, since we are<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame,<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Hebrews encourages us to finish the race, but also, to keep our eyes on<br \/>\nJesus while we do it. Often a marathon runner focusses on other thoughts while<br \/>\nrunning. This helps the runner NOT focus on the grueling race. When we focus<br \/>\non Jesus, we are not so hung up on the problem. We are inspired by what Jesus<br \/>\ndid on the cross for us! And we can think about and be inspired by that great<br \/>\ncloud of witnesses who have finished the race before us.<\/p>\n<p>In the previous chapter of Hebrews, the writer talks about Noah, who<br \/>\nspent 120 years of his life building an ark. 120 years? Now that is what I call a<br \/>\nlong marathon. I can almost hear Noah whispering in my ear, \u201cSon\u2026.you have<br \/>\nno reason to complain about your race!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Do not lose heart! Be encouraged! God is with you, and God cares.<br \/>\nYou can do it! Just keep placing one foot in front of the other.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s so good to be your pastor!<\/p>\n<p>In the Lord\u2019s service till the last fish is caught, &lt;&gt;&lt;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A lot of us in the church are going through some tough times lately.
